SHE AWARDS: Inspirational Pinner resident wins award for abstract artwork

A woman from Pinner won the Arts and Culture category at the SHE Awards on March 8.

Shreena Patel is an award-winning abstract artist who founded Art by Shree in 2018, making it her full-time business during lockdown in 2020. She creates bespoke artwork for celebrities and clients, and even featured in British Vogue.

The annual SHE Awards ceremony, which took place at the Prince Regent Hotel in Chigwell, aims to recognise women from all backgrounds and coincided with International Women’s Day.

Talking about her achievement, Shreena said: “I feel so blessed; it’s such a honour and it meant the world to me. As a woman and south Asian artist, it’s really hard to be seen and heard, so this is a win for all the Asian artists out there.

“I want to thank everyone who supported me along the way, and I hope it inspires others to carry on and paint, despite the challenges thrown their way.”

At the ceremony, 50 women received an award ranging across categories including arts and culture, health, role model, young champion, volunteers, sustainable small business, and many more.

This year, the event was hosted by BBC radio presenter Noreen Khan, who said she “loved the vibe” and the fact that the awards celebrate “real” women and not celebrities.
