Published on: 10th September 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford Football Club’s Community Sports and Education Trust has announced the launch of free adult weight management programme Shape Up Together, commissioned by Hertfordshire County Council, funded by Public Health England and developed in partnership with Stevenage FC Foundation.

Aimed at the BAME community, those with a physical and/or learning disability and those with a severe mental illness, the new Shape Up Together programme has been developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals and community groups.

Free to access and open to both adult men and women of all ages, it will be delivered with the support of key healthcare professionals, with tailored programmes meeting the needs of each specific group.

The Trust has a positive track record of delivering successful health and wellbeing programmes, including the adult weight management programme Shape Up. Over 1,000 people have collectively lost seven and a half tonnes of weight via Shape Up since the programmes inception in 2015.

Vanessa Ashby, health improvement lead at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “We are very excited to have awarded Watford FC Community Trust the Public Health England funding for additional weight management services across Hertfordshire. The new inclusive programme ‘Shape Up Together’ will work specifically with communities which have previously been overlooked by traditional weight management services. We can’t wait to get started!”

Andrew Garlick, head of health and wellbeing at the Trust, added: “At the Trust we are extremely proud of our work across health and weight management. We are grateful to Public Health England and Hertfordshire County Council for giving us the opportunity to reach even more people and ultimately get even more people reaching their goal weight regardless of their perceived barriers.”

Joe Goude, chief executive at Stevenage FC Foundation said: “We’re delighted to be working partnership with Watford FC Community Trust and Public Health Hertfordshire to provide a countywide Shape Up offer that highlights our collective desire to support everyone in our community to achieve their goal weight.”

Shape Up Together will use a mixture of digital and physical resources, with the inclusive 12-week courses designed to motivate and guide those taking part in the programme.
