A man arrested for shoplifting at the Co-op in London Road, St Albans, just before 1pm on Sunday, May 8, has also been charged with other serious offences thanks to members of the public who alerted police.
Members of the public notified police that a man was acting suspiciously in the Co-op and gave them his description and which direction he went.
Officers arrested Angelo Wright, 42, of no fixed abode, in Victoria Playing Fields, and he was subsequently charged with theft of over £50 worth of goods.
He was also charged with two additional thefts (shoplifting) from the Co-op in London Road and Cell Barnes Lane, theft of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, and having no insurance between April and June this year.
A white BMW was recovered and returned to the victim.
He has been bailed and is due to appear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 1.
