A Section 60 Order which was introduced in parts of Watford yesterday evening was withdrawn just before midnight, following a review of the situation and the impact of the order being in place.
Officers who were on patrol across the town, reverted back to using standard stop and search powers where necessary.
The order was in place from 7.00pm until midnight last night, Wednesday, May 7, and gave officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and minimise further incidents.
At the time, Inspector Neil Canning said: “Members of the public can expect a visible police presence over the next 24 hours, following several incidents of criminality and violence.
“This Section 60 order will allow officers to stop and search people who are suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality. It will also be used to request the removal of face coverings being worn to conceal an individual’s identity. Non-compliance can result in arrest.
“It’s important to note this is not meant to disrupt or inconvenience people going about their daily lives, but instead sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this behaviour in the town.”
The Order, which is made under S60 and 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, incorporated the area shown on the map below.
