Pupils from a Berkhamsted primary school recently met and questioned their new MP.

On Wednesday, October 2, Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, visited staff and children at Westfield Primary School.

The school wanted to welcome the new MP to the community and introduce the children to their Parliamentary representative.

The visit was jam-packed, starting first with a discussion between Ms Collins MP, headteacher Miss Leach, deputy headteacher Mrs Slater and chair of governors Ash Patil.

The MP was keen to discuss the positive impact of education within the community and also spoke about the sector’s current challenges, such as how the government can help schools support individuals with additional needs.

With coffees drunk, it was time to start the real business – meeting the lovely children of Westfield.

After enjoying a tour of the school, the MP was introduced to the reception and nursery classes.

Children from the school council were then selected to ask the MP the questions that matter most to them.

From “What’s your favourite animal?” to “Did you always think you were going to be an MP?”, the children got to experience their own Question Time.

When quizzed by one of the students about her favourite part of their school, Ms Collins MP shared “meeting all the wonderful people”.
