Rabbi Mendel Lew from Stanmore & Canons Park Synagogue has left by mutual consent with immediate effect.
Rabbi Lew, who has decided to pursue other roles, is a member of the Lew family who joined the synagogue in 2006.
The synagogue offered an opportunity for members to say goodbye to him a few weeks before he left the role on Friday, February 14.
A joint statement by the synagogue’s honorary executive David, Jacqui, Adam, Sam, Danny and Julian said: “Many members have fostered close relationships with them [the Lew family], and we wish them well in their future endeavours.
“Please rest assured that arrangements are already being put in place so that services and pastoral activities carried out by Rabbi Lew continue.
“We will write to you in due course with regard to any plans for recruiting successors to Rabbi and Rebbetzen Lew.”
The statement also said they were “grateful” to the Lews for their efforts at the synagogue on behalf of the community.
