Staff at Frogmore Paper Mill saw their Christmas wishes come true when Affinity Water in Hatfield gave them a new van to carry out their Recycle for Learning waste paper collections from schools. Earlier in the year, Affinity Water approached the Apsley Paper Trail charity, operators of Frogmore Paper Mill, with a view to becoming corporate members of the Recycle for Learning scheme. They learnt that one of the barriers to the expansion of this pioneering school’s waste paper collection and education scheme was the extreme age of the charity’s van – so old that it attracted a £100 penalty every time it entered the low emission zone. Affinity Water are already dedicated recyclers and supporters of educational programmes. They advised the charity to apply for support from their own Community Engagement Programme and set about identifying one of their retirement fleet vans that might suit the charity’s needs. At the beginning of December the charity at Frogmore Paper Mill learned that a ‘low mileage’ van had been found and that their application for support to convert it for collection use had also been successful. The end result being a hand-over by ‘Santa’ at Affinity Water’s Hatfield headquarters on December 23rd – just in time for Christmas. Commenting on this wonderful Christmas present, Paul Botje, the Apsley Paper Trail charity’s General Manager said “We are delighted that Affinity Water have been so impressed by our Recycle for Learning scheme and the linked educational programmes at Frogmore Paper Mill that they have made such a wonderful and generous contribution to its continuation. We look forward to a long association with them in the years ahead.”
