Lisa Scott-Lee, singer for pop group Steps, has donated £2,000 to a fundraiser for the Stanmore church where the band’s iconic Tragedy music video was recorded.
All Saints Church is aiming to raise £50,000 to replace a walkway that had to be knocked down before it collapsed.
Their efforts were given a boost when Scott-Lee made her donation and also posted about the church’s plight on social media.
Her Twitter post said: “Thank you All Saints Church for being a beautiful backdrop to our Tragedy video, and for the wonderful memories I will treasure forever.”
The money raised through the fundraiser will enable the church to build a new walkway after the previous one, which connected the church to an office block, was knocked down.
A JustGiving page has so far raised more than £4,000, and the church is exploring other funding options.
Reverend John Barker, vicar of All Saints Church, said: “We had an architect and structural engineer come in, and they said they weren’t sure what to do. During a church meeting, we heard a crack of the wall breaking and, with the permission of the church, we knocked it down before it fell down.”
Rev Barker was also approached by Steps’ videographer, who asked for permission to film shots of the church for the updated Tragedy music video to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary.

Rev Barker said the filming had been a total surprise to him, adding: “You couldn’t make it up.”
After the updated music video, available to watch on Steps’ official YouTube channel, was released, Rev Barker said the donations started to take off.
Rev Barker, who spoke to Lisa on Instagram and thanked her for raising the profile of the fundraiser, said: “The fantastic coincidence with Steps has given us a great start, but we still have a long way to go. It would be wonderful if the community could do what they could to help us.”
