What is black, white, named after an animal, and helps many to cross the road safely? The answer is a zebra crossing, and a new one could be on the cards for Gallows Hill Lane.
The crossing point is proposed to be installed next year between the Manor House car park and Breakspeare School.
This follows concerns being raised regarding access to the Manor House Playground via Popes Road. County officers are now pushing ahead with designs and constructing a detailed plan.
Breakspeare School campaigner Chris O’Donnell began the ongoing campaign to improve road safety near the school last December, with the idea of a designated safer crossing point for parents, children, and residents.
Chris explained: “I just want a safe crossing point for children who go to Breakspeare School. It’s a special needs school, so a zebra crossing with no noise would be ideal, and I hope we can use it for a dedicated crossing patrol.”
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “I am pleased county officers have rethought the issue here and come up with this new plan.
“We are meeting the school and parish council in October to discuss the details and some minor changes that might be needed to the car park and school entrance.”
