‘REALLY NEEDED’: Pinner residents boost community spirit with new Chatty Café scheme

Published on: 26th September 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Bringing people together one conversation at a time is the mission of a vibrant new initiative – the Chatty Café.

The scheme was brought to life at The Queen’s Head pub in Pinner after local resident Sonia noticed a Chatter and Natter table had no one to host it.

She explained: “Sean, the landlord, said it was something the community really needed. I decided it would be worthwhile to volunteer and help people connect.”

Encouraging friendly conversation, the café is inspired by Alexandra Hoskyn, who noticed the lack of talking in a supermarket café during a visit with her infant son.

Alexandra launched the Chatty Cafés scheme after finding that by putting ‘Chatter and Natter’ signs on tables, she created a space for people to talk and reconnect with one another.

Research published by Coventry University shows that 100 per cent of users of the cafés feel less lonely and 97 per cent of venues report a stronger community spirit.

Pinner residents are hoping to reduce social isolation and encourage community spirit in the village by adopting the scheme.

At the session, people are able to drop in, chat, and meet regularly with friendly faces.

Everybody is welcome. Sessions take place every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm at The Queen’s Head on Pinner High Street.
