A Pinner resident has taken on the mission of transforming a telephone box, sold by BT for £1, into a project that will support the local community.
Annesley Abercorn is the founder and chairman of The Dreams Trust UK, a charity which provides opportunities and funding for young people from difficult circumstances to help them reach their full potential through educational, therapeutic and life skills programmes.
When Annesley discovered BT were selling a redundant telephone box on Pinner High Street for £1, he set out to convert the box into a community library and careers noticeboard.
Speaking to Pinnernews, Annesley said: “I am delighted to say that thanks to the help of some volunteers from the local community, work has now started on the kiosk.
“We need to give the inside and out a deep clean, scrape off the old paint, repaint it, replace any damaged glass, install new signage and a custom-made shelving system, together with a noticeboard and books of course!
“It is our aim that we will be able to roll this out across the UK by providing our design drawings and planning application template free of charge.”
I saw that 2 experienced volunteers are transforming the old phone box and I’m delighted. It’s such an iconic feature that must be preserved.
