After one of the UK’s most loved comedians, Ricky Gervais, announced a surprise extra stand-up show at Rickmansworth’s Watersmeet theatre, tickets sold out in a matter of moments.
Gervais, known worldwide for his role as the creator of programmes such as Afterlife, Extras and The Office, announced a one-night show at the town centre venue only a week prior to the performance date, Thursday, July 28.
With tickets going on sale on at 10am, Friday, July 22, they were snapped up in seconds by local fans eager to see the comedian on stage. Due to the speed of sale, some residents have complained on Twitter about difficulties with the booking process.
In response to the complaints, Mr Gervais replied to his fans, saying: “I think you’ve crashed the website and caused general chaos again.”
The surprise night consisted entirely of new material the comedian is testing as part of his tour in preparation for his upcoming Netflix comedy special Armageddon, which is set to be released in 2024.
