‘RESOUNDING SUCCESS’: Concert in Berkhamsted raises funds for bereavement support service

Published on: 9th January 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Over the festive period, Age UK Dacorum (AUKD) has been supporting those who have suffered a bereavement during what can be one of the most difficult times of the year.

Organiser Charlie Hussey describe AUKD’s Christmas community concert at St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted as “a resounding success”, not only because it was a sell-out event, but because it raised £2,000 for its much-needed self-funded Bereavement Listening Support Service.

Speaking of the event, which took place on December 6, Charlie said: “There was an incredible feeling of warmth and inclusivity which was augmented by a diverse range of speakers, singers and guest musicians whose underlining themes of kindness and generosity, often presented in a humorous way, helped to generate an immersive, charming, and caring community vibe.

“What was so heartening was that so many involved gave their time and services voluntarily, allowing more money to be raised for those most in need.”

The Bereavement Listening Support Service provides a Hertfordshire-wide network for those who need emotional and practical help as they deal with grief after loss. Many using the service were carers for family and friends, processing not only the loss of a loved one but the loss of the caring role which had shaped their sense of purpose in life.

Charlie said: “It is all these people, often lonely, isolated, frightened, and sometimes forgotten, who we support from our funding efforts.”

The Bereavement Listening Support Service does not receive any funding from local government or national government. Its existence is totally reliant on AUKD’S funding efforts.
