A St Albans-based distillery has released a limited edition gin, with the proceeds going to charity.
Spirit of Hertfordshire is donating £6 from every 70cl bottle (£4 from 50cl bottles) sold of their new Remembrance Gin to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Distillery owner Richard Daniel said: “We were very eager to use our position as St Albans’ foremost distillery to pay tribute to the sacrifice of previous generations, and to raise funds for those in need.”
Head distiller Richard Osmond said he had been looking for an excuse to experiment with poppy seed as a botanical for some time.
He said: “To me, the Abbey has also always had an association with Remembrance Day – as a one-time student at the neighbouring St Albans School, I attended many a Remembrance service there and saw many wreaths of poppies being laid. So it made perfect sense that our gin could also pay tribute.”
The Remembrance Gin can be purchased online from spiritofherts.co.uk
