A shoplifter has been jailed after being arrested on New Year’s Eve.
Police were called just after 7pm to reports of a theft from Tesco Express, Prestwick Road, South Oxhey.
Lesley Holmes-Glass, 50, of no fixed abode, was arrested nearby on suspicion of theft.
He was also wanted for additional offences and was arrested on suspicion of three further thefts:
- On Sunday, July 28, six bottles of wine were stolen from Tesco Express, Prestwick Road.
- On Wednesday, November 13, two bottles of wine were stolen from Co-operative, The Parade, Delta Gain.
- On Wednesday, November 27, two energy drinks and three boxes of chocolates were taken from Co-operative, The Parade, Delta Gain.
He was charged and appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 2, where he pleaded guilty to all four offences receiving a custodial sentence of eight weeks in prison (two weeks for each offence) and a total of £111.55 in fines.
PC Marcus Zost, of the Three Rivers Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “You may believe this to be a small prison sentence for low level offences, but this has a wider impact on the community and businesses.
“For example, the impact on staff of witnessing these type of offences and business losses due to such thefts.
“This is a brilliant result locally against a persistent offender who believes he can offend without consequences.
“We take all reports seriously and continue to make the county a hostile place for anyone who believes they can commit offences here.”
