REC REPAIR: Work begins to fix recurrent problems at Northwood Recreation Ground

Published on: 21st February 2024   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Repairs are being carried out at Northwood Recreation Ground to prevent recurring issues.

The Friends of Northwood Recreation Ground (FNRG) first raised awareness of the issue, which has caused a bog to form on the playing field, back in March 2023.

Now, 10 months later, Affinity Water has started work to resolve the problem, with diggers and workers first spotted at the park on Tuesday, January 23.

Posting on social media, founder of FNRG Ben Rawson-Jones said: “It’s certainly been a time-consuming and frustrating challenge trying to get this issue addressed over the last 10 months, but hopefully it will now be resolved once and for all.

“Our green spaces are so important to our wellbeing, and I look forward to seeing youngsters and adults alike back playing sport in the park.”

A spokesperson for Affinity Water said: “There had been a burst main raised on Highland Road, Northwood, and upon digging, it was found the leak was on a communication pipe feeding the pavilion.

“The leak has now been repaired. The reinstatement team are waiting for the ground to dry and the reinstatement will then be fully completed.”
