As we draw nearer to the end of another year, many reflect on the last 12 months. For Abbots Youth FC, there are many successes to look back on.
The recent season marked a huge milestone for the club, as they introduced the first-ever girls’ team in their 50-year history, the AYFC U7 Girls.
Coaches Adam and Mark seized the opportunity to create a girls’ team after they both realised there was no club for their daughters to play in.
It’s this inspiration that made them determined to open doors to all girls in the village, with the team based at Manor House and working in partnership with Abbots Langley Cricket Club.
Speaking to ABBOTSnews, co-chair Marie Tailor said: “There’s real enthusiasm, energy, and teamwork on display every week, with every player getting involved and showing fantastic sportsmanship. This is the girls’ first taste of competitive football, and they absolutely love it!”
Despite most players coming from the village, the club are also welcoming those from across a 10-mile radius to join the team and make new friendships.
The club currently have qualified coaches and managers running 12 teams with over 150 players.
