The official opening of the Reach Free School in Rickmansworth took place today. To mark the occasion the school, on Tolpits Lane, hosted a grand opening event, showing off the completed building works and the inaugural pupils showed the press and other members of the group around the new site. Guests were treated to refreshments, a tour and musical interlude from the Glee Club. Head teacher Richard Booth made a speech and after cutting the ribbon, declared the school officially open. Carolyn Venn, chair of governors, cut the ribbon to open the school and hailed the efforts of everyone involved. She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and still can’t believe we’re here. People said we couldn’t do it but we have and it’s amazing.” Richard Booth said he was overwhelmed. He said: “To get the school open with such a small team and the support of the community is amazing. The pupils bring a smile to our face every day and I’d like to thank the parents for choosing the school. The comments we have received from them have been heartening.” More information to follow in December’s My Ricky News, out December 13.
