A Garston councillor will be doing a sponsored walk to raise vital funds for a homeless charity.
Leggatts ward councillor, Asif Khan will be doing the walk with his 15-year-old son Sulayman on Saturday, July 31.
This is to fundraise for Hand on Heart (HoH) charity, as part of their Summer Homeless Campaign.
Speaking to GARSTONnews, cllr Khan said: “I connected with the charity last year, during the pandemic, where I volunteered with some of their work by preparing winter survival bags for homeless people.
“HoH volunteers and their families will take part in the walk, which will be five- six miles long and cover all the homeless distribution locations in London the charity serves.
“There will be a scavenger hunt during the walk where participants will collect supplies and assemble packs for the homeless along the route. These will be handed out to rough sleepers on the same day after the sponsored walk is completed.”
Cllr Khan said he is looking forward to Saturday and he wishes to raise as much as possible to fund the survival packs.
He added: “I am really looking forward to taking part, especially in central London as I have not been since the beginning of the pandemic.
“My son and I really want to help and relate closely to the work being carried out. We really hope to inspire families to get involved in such a worthy cause.”
