A group of adult volunteers and young leaders from Watford North Scouts (WNS) raised funds at the Abbots Langley fireworks display on Friday, November 1.
Money raised from the fundraiser, which involved selling hot chocolates to attendees at the event at Manor House Playing Fields, will be put towards marketing material to enable more people to get into Scouting.
District lead volunteer at WNS Jack Mawhinney said the event raised around £75, collecting £1,117.47 with £1,044.93 in expenses. It also gave the team great exposure to the huge crowds at the event, which Jack estimated was almost 5,000 people strong.
He told Abbots News: “I was a bit biased; I definitely plugged The Scouts a lot.
“People think we’re not still around, but we’ve been around for over 110 years. Perhaps we’re not shouting about it enough.”
WNS has roughly 800 young people involved across its nine groups and three Explorer units, but a waiting list of more than 200 young people waiting to join.
