Riverside Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead hosted a school art competition in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this summer.

Tasked to take inspiration from Queen Elizabeth’s record-breaking reign, the competition received more than 350 submissions from students all across Hemel Hempstead. Every submission could be viewed at the grand exhibit at Riverside Shopping Centre.

Lizzie, aged 10, a pupil from Chambersbury Primary School, had the award-winning entry with her drawing of a classic English tea party.

Lizzie’s lauded artwork has earned her school the £1,000 prize money.

Naomi Chapman-Cotter, Chambersbury headteacher, said: “It was great to see so many of our children inspired by this event and I know the children at Chambersbury were very motivated to be involved. We were so excited to hear that Lizzie’s design had been awarded first place! We are delighted for Lizzie and are extremely proud of her.”

“The judges were absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response the competition received,” a Riverside Shopping Centre spokesperson told My Local News.

“The art exhibition itself has been very popular, with many shoppers stopping by to admire the artwork whilst visiting the centre. Staff have also received several lovely comments from passers-by and thank everyone who has expressed interest in this wonderful, community-based exhibition.”
