PUMPED UP: Former bodybuilder and Abbots Langley resident hopes to support women in fitness industry

A former professional bodybuilder from Abbots Langley is hoping to create a network to help women succeed in the fitness industry.

Emma Sills graced the cover of ABBOTSnews’ sister magazine CROXLEYnews back in 2013 during the height of her professional bodybuilding career.

After being named Britain’s best bodybuilder, Emma flew out to Miami, where she was ranked third in the world.

While her bodybuilding days are now behind her, Emma is still firmly ensconced in the fitness industry. She is now the chief operating officer of Pump Gyms, a group of six local gyms.

After 20 years in fitness, Emma is keen to share her pearls of wisdom about what it takes to run a successful fitness business.

On April 18 and 19, Emma ran the PT Profit and Progress Summit, a series of online meetings and sessions with female fitness industry leaders. Free for participants to attend, the summit was designed to support women looking to break into the fitness industry.

Speaking to ABBOTSnews, Emma said: “Most business-related fitness events are hosted by men for men and are often unrelatable for women who work in the industry. I speak to lots of women who lack confidence, doubt themselves, and feel daunted by gyms and the fitness industry, which is male-dominated.

“Sometimes I think men don’t have the same fear about things not being perfect. I want to help women overcome those obstacles and create the change I want to see in the industry. The summit is about providing a hub and a network for women who don’t know where to start.”
