Chorleywood Parish Council (CPC) has raised the current annual council tax charge due to the “impact of inflation”.
From April, Chorleywood residents have seen a £6.41 rise in council tax, the first increase since 2023.
Councillor Debbie Rosario, chairman of the parish council, shared the news in CPC’s annual report on Tuesday, May 13.
She said: “Over this past year, the impact of inflation has significantly impacted our staff costs, day-to-day operational costs, delivery costs for capital projects and insurance costs.
“Councillors and senior officers have continued to take proactive financial decisions to modernise the organisation, introduce efficiency savings and maintain income streams to prevent costs rising.”
She explained that the move was necessary, due to “reduced income from the Lawn Cemetery, rising Employer National Insurance Contributions and tree surgery costs, due largely to storm damage, and previously under budgeted compliance costs”.
She continued: “This means the current annual council tax charge of £85.59 for each Band D household will increase by £6.41 from April 1, 2025; the first increase in the amount of the Precept since 2023.
“The parish council marked being 50 years old last April, so to make sure we keep delivering the services that our residents want, the council launched its first Residents Satisfaction Survey in late 2024.
“Although the response rate was low, it provided some useful feedback that helped guide our objectives for this year. We will be repeating the survey in the autumn, and the council would encourage you to share your views with us.”
