Four teenagers have received a prestigious award after a “challenging” journey.
Jessica Cox, Ava Lehner and Isabelle Lehner from 1st Apsley Scout group and Sam Penn from 1st Kings Langley have earned the King’s Scout Award.
They were presented with their award by the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss CBE at Phasels Wood Activity Centre on Thursday, April 3.
The four teenagers have been friends for many years. Jessica, Ava and Isabelle have known each other since joining the Beavers at age six. They are now 17-year-old young leaders and members of Hemel Hempstead Explorers (HHEX).
Having now turned 18, Sam has recently swapped his HHEX shirt for a 1st Kings Langley adult volunteer shirt.
The group earned their King’s Scout Awards by completing specific activities before their 25th birthday. These included spending time away, engaging in diverse activities, and demonstrating leadership and personal growth.
All four completed one of their challenges together as they took part in an expedition across Snowdonia. They battled a 60mph storm and helped an injured climber by administering first aid and creating a human wind break to protect the casualty.
Simon Fancourt, group lead volunteer, said: “We are so proud of our three new King’s Scouts.
“The journey to achieve this prestigious award is very challenging and requires participants to demonstrate fantastic team and individual skills.
“As young people have until their 25th birthday to earn this award, the fact that all three have achieved this before their 18th birthdays is outstanding.”
