Drawings of a snow-covered St Albans Cathedral and a snowman were picked to appear on the Mayor’s Christmas card following an art competition at Oakwood School.

Pupils from the primary school were invited to put their artistic skills to the test by coming up with a design for the Mayor’s Christmas card.

The Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia, was so impressed with the entries that he chose two for the card.

Siobhan drew the image of St Albans Cathedral used for the front of card and Ruby created the snowman that featured on the rear.

The Mayor congratulated both winners for their artistic skills at a special assembly held on Monday,  January 1 at the school which is located in his ward. He presented them both with their framed winning pictures and book tokens.

The Mayor said: “I was amazed by the standard of the entries for the Mayor’s Christmas card competition run at Oakwood School and thank all the children who took part. For me, Siobhan’s snowy scene at St Albans Cathedral and Ruby’s snowman stood out. These two budding artists showed off their talent and the designs looked fantastic on my Christmas card.”

During the assembly, Cllr Zia also spoke to the pupils from the school about local democracy and the ceremonial role of Mayor.
