PREMIER ALBANIAN COACHES: Photographic book published about long serving Watford company

Published on: 31st August 2021   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

A photographic retrospective book has been published about a family-run coach company based in Watford that served the community for over 80-years.

The book, compiled by Ian Read, is titled Premier-Albanian Coaches of South West Hertfordshire 1923-2003 and explores the history of the leading independent coach operator in South West Herts for around 80-years.

It was started by Ernest Hewitt in 1923 and run by successive generations of his family, based in Watford. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of residents were transported on day trips to the seaside, school journeys, holiday tours in the UK and on continental Europe.

Ian Read told MyLocalNews: “I knew the family who owned the company for over 50 years and started to put together a collection of photos. Most of the images have never been published so I decided to create a coffee table book. The response has been excellent so far with many people reflecting on their trips with Premier-Albanian Coaches over the years.”

The book covers 80 years in 165 images, many of which are from the family’s collections and have never before appeared in print. The high-quality book is of high quality with case-bound covers and costs £29.95.
