POPULAR DEMAND: Radlett coffee shop to expand just a year after opening

Published on: 17th August 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A major expansion is set to go ahead at an independent coffee shop in Radlett only a year after it opened its doors.

The local community has warmly welcomed Brass Monkey since its opening on Watling Street in March last year. The popular shop serves food and speciality coffee, as well as selling affordable art pieces.

Now, the shop has announced that it will be doubling its footprint and expanding into the empty unit next door.

The plans are to move the coffee shop into the empty unit to allow more people to enjoy a drink and food from the extended menu.

The current unit will be repurposed as a dedicated art gallery, showcasing international and local artists and giving people a comfortable space to view and buy unique, affordable art. Curated and solo exhibitions will also take place, along with other potential ventures in the space.

Warren Lipman, owner of Brass Monkey, spoke to RADLETTnews about why he thinks that the venue has been so well-received and is bucking the trend of closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis.

He said: “We’ve been really humbled by the support we’ve had from the local community over this first year. People come for our outstanding coffee and stay for the quirky art. However, we’re still very serious about coffee.

“I think it’s about customer service and engagement. We’re a community hub; our staff know what drinks our regulars have and we support local people, suppliers and artists. Even our coffee waste gets donated to the parish council’s allotment, so goes back into the land in the area. We’ve built a community and destination for Radlett.”
