FAREWELL: Radlett Cricket Club pay tribute to two ‘life-long’ members

Published on: 17th April 2024   |   By: Sophia Sheera   |   Category: Uncategorized

Radlett Cricket Club (CC) are devastated to announce the passing of former first XI scorer Doreen Browne and John Clark, who played for the club for more than 60 years.

John acted as vice president of the club in 1993, before becoming a life member in 2002. A talented all-rounder, he played for every 11 at Radlett CC over his lifetime.

In tribute, club chairman Tony Johnson said: “Radlett CC has lost not only a life member, but a club legend. Anyone who spent even a moment in John’s company knew how much the club meant to him and his love for all things Radlett.”

Equally committed to the team was Doreen, who joined Radlett CC in 1995 and scored more than 500 games for the club throughout her lifetime. Only last season, Doreen would regularly score two or three Herts Senior matches per week.

Colin Mansell, a member of Radlett CC, wrote on the club’s website: “Doreen’s ‘ever presence’ extended into areas unseen by most. From the outset of the club website some two decades ago, Doreen spent endless hours on her computer at home keeping both back office and 1st XI results perfectly up to date.”

According to Doreen’s son, Stuart, the Brownes and the Clarks have been family friends for more than 50 years, with John’s son Michael the best man at Stuart’s wedding. Both will be sorely missed.
