A policeman appeared in court today (Monday) accused of the rape of a fifteen year old girl. PC Leigh Brightman, 36, is charged with raping the teenager on August 9 last year. Brightman, who lives in Hitchin, is also accused of making (downloading) and possessing indecent images and a film of children, as well as misconduct in a public officer between April 2009 and June 2014. He made a brief appearance before Luton Magistrates Court and was bailed to attend Luton Crown Court on January 27. Brightman, who has served in Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and Hitchin, was arrested in August and suspended from duty. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed.
