People in Chorleywood say they are bitterly disappointed after a planning application for a new club house and café was turned down by Three Rivers District Council.
The parish council, Friends of the Common and Chorleywood Residents’ Association were all in favour of the application but district council planners turned it down because they felt future decisions by the parish council could have a detrimental effect on the future of the café.
A spokesman for the parish council said the decision is particularly disappointing given all the hard work and commitment that the parish council does in protecting the Common
He added: “This application is so important for the local community – offering modern sports facilities and opportunities, for female and disabled cricket for the first time, and better facilities for the adults’ teams and hundreds of colts who are members of the club. The social enterprise scheme MissionEmployable will not only offer training facilities for adults with learning difficulties, but also a community space with toilet and refreshment facilities for users of the Common.”
The parish council and Chorleywood Cricket Club sincerely hope that the right decision can be made at the Three Rivers Planning Committee to allow for this community project to move forward.
