A road in Berkhamsted which is home to a school, a sports centre and a church has been closed until early March while gas works are carried out.
Kings Road closed on Friday, January 17, and will remain shut until 11.59pm on Friday, March 7, according to Causeway.
Located on Kings Road are the Kings Campus of Berkhamsted School, Kings Road Church, and the Knox-Johnston Sports Centre.
The news was met with disappointment on Facebook, as one commenter said: “It’s never-ending, just one road closed after another. Makes any plans for building more houses and creating more chaos just plain madness.”
Amber Greensmith, head of customer experience for Cadent in the East of England, said: “We’re committed to upgrading the gas infrastructure across the UK. Earlier this month, we started work to replace existing iron gas pipes in Kings Road, Berkhamsted, with new plastic ones which will futureproof our network and allow us to keep the gas flowing.
“These planned works include a full road closure which is essential to keep our engineers and road users safe while the work takes place.
“We are very conscious of the disruption roadworks cause and will remain in regular contact with the Highways Authority to keep them updated on our work, which we will always complete as quickly and as safely as we can. We’d like to thank residents and businesses in the area in advance for their patience as these essential works take place.
“If you smell gas, please act immediately and call the gas emergency service on 0800 111 999. Please do not assume it is related to this work. It may not be and needs to be checked out.”
