An Amersham pig farm has been gaining publicity recently due to the increasing popularity of miniature pigs as pets.
Sales of miniature pigs have boomed during the pandemic and Kew Little Pigs, based at Old Amersham Farm, have been reaping the rewards.
Olivia Mikhail, of Kew Little Pigs, recently told BBC Radio Three Counties: “Last year we actually had a record of pig sales and I’d say it was up by at least 50 per cent.
“Most people are aware that pigs could be pets, whereas 10 years ago, it was a bit of a fad. Pandemic wise, lots of people have been wanting the companionship of an animal. Any form of animal that can distract you from your worries is a good thing.
“People have realised there’s so many benefits to pigs as a pet, versus a conventional dog or cat.
“A lot of it is that you can’t be allergic to pigs. And a lot of people want something that you can interact with but is a little more self-maintaining.”
