A pupil from a Berkhamsted School has been highly commended in a county-wide poetry competition.
Jasmine from Ashlyns School was Highly Commended in the Key Stage 4/5 category in the Just Talk 2022 mental health awareness poetry competition, the theme of which was ‘The Gift of Kindness’.
A judging panel for the poetry competition included local poet Kate Walton, Broxbourne MP Sir Charles Walker, and mental health advocate António Ferreira, who selected a shortlist of 20 finalists in two categories – Key Stage 3 (11-14 years) and Key Stage 4/5 (14-18 years).
Hertfordshire County Council’s Executive Member for Public Health and Community Safety, Morris Bright MBE, said: “We want to give every child in Hertfordshire the best possible start in life and support our young people to live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
“This competition highlighted the positive impact that kindness can have on our mental health and wellbeing. It’s a gift we can all give.
“I would like to thank each of the schools who took part in this competition and praise every student for the quality of their poems. I’d also like to thank the judges for making the very tough decision of choosing a winner for each category.”
