On Sunday, July 16, the Deputy Mayor of Dacorum, councillor Brenda Link was a guest of honour at a National Baseball League game.
The game took place between the Herts Falcons and the London Latin Boys at Grovehill Ballpark in Hemel Hempstead, where two intense matches took place.
The day finished with both teams winning one match each, 7-3 to the Hemel side in one, and 7-5 to the London Latin Boys in the second.
The US tradition usually sees the ceremonial first pitch performed by high-profile dignitaries, including the President of the United States. However this time, it was cllr Link who threw out the ceremonial first pitch and had a group photo taken with both teams.
Cllr Link said: “I was delighted to be invited to attend the baseball match – and to throw the first pitch! It is fantastic to have this facility in Hemel Hempstead and to be raising awareness of this sport in the UK.”
