Nurses at Watford Hospital went on strike today (October 13) between 7am to 11am over the national dispute in relation to the Government proposals on the NHS pay. NHS nurses pay for several years and seven unions which affect West Hertfordshire Hospitals, agreed to strike for a pay rise. Unison was amongst some of the Unions who participated in the strike, Yvonne Cleary, the Unison Eastern Regional Organiser comment on the need for action. She said: “Whilst this Government slashes public services, it also attacks the very people who provide those services. The people who care for others are being denied the right to a decent standard of living. “Unless we value the people who provide the health service which we all depend on, there will be no-one left to care.” Following the strike, from Tuesday, October 14 until Friday, October 17, nurses will take action short of a strike where staff member will ensure they take their breaks instead of working through them. Watford General Patients were told to continue as normal if they had an appointment at the hospital. How did the NHS nurse strikes affect you? Email leigh@mynewsmag.co.uk
