St Albans City & District Council (SADC) has announced a review of free parking currently offered at a local leisure centre.
Currently, drivers can park at Westminster Lodge for free for up to two hours.
However, SADC is considering scrapping the free period and introducing a small charge.
Clare De Silva, Parliamentary spokesperson for St Albans, said: “For many people locally, the two hours of free parking currently available at Westminster Lodge is a real lifeline.
“I am calling on the council leader therefore to reconsider his plans and to put people and businesses first.”
A spokesperson for SADC said: “As a council, we are committed to tackling the climate emergency by promoting green transport such as cycling, walking or buses.
“For these reasons, we are considering a small £1 charge to cover the first two hours of parking and will examine the feedback we have received about this proposal before making any final decision.”
