PARKING ISSUE: ‘Unsafe’ junction set for increased patrols

Published on: 2nd March 2022   |   By: Jenny Hersh   |   Category: Uncategorized

Pressure from a team of local councillors has successfully led to an increase in parking attendant patrols outside Meriden shops.

The patrols, from Watford Borough Council parking enforcement officers, will aim to help alleviate the traffic problems on York Way, Meriden Way and The Gossamers.

WBC has confirmed that York Way is now being patrolled daily, with patrols taking place at least once a day within the coming four months.

The extra patrols follow other action secured to help local residents, including working with Watford Community Housing (WCH) to bring forward works to install new parking spaces.

Mayor Peter Taylor met with the chief executive of WCH on the Meriden estate, in the week commencing February 28, to discuss ways of making the area safer for both pedestrians and motorists.

Councillor for Meriden, Jenny Pattinson said: “Parking at the Meriden shops is one of the top issues people are contacting us about right now. There’s no doubt that the junction feels really unsafe right now.

“It’s important that people park responsibly if they do need to stop in the area, the way some people are behaving at the moment there is a real risk of an accident, that is why we need the extra patrols.”
