PADDY’S BACK: Beloved dog found in Shenley

Published on: 21st September 2023   |   By: Sophia Sheera   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Jack Russell terrier, known as Paddy, was found in a disused well in Shenley ten days after he was reported missing.

Paddy went missing on 23rd August after running into a field between Harris Lane and Rectory Lane, in east Shenley.

His distraught family contacted local volunteer groups DroneSARforlostdogs, Doglost and Dogateers, as well as sharing the news on social media.

Volunteers offered expert knowledge in the behaviours of lost dogs, as well as tracking equipment like drones. They helped Paddy’s family to distribute posters and offered support even when the family felt the situation had become “hopeless” and the search “futile”.

Paddy was finally found by a Shenley resident who had seen the posters and heard him barking for help. She found a bedraggled and hungry Paddy stuck down a forgotten well shaft and helped him to climb out.

Kate Schoub, one of Paddy’s owners, has shared that Paddy is ‘back to himself again’. She has now organised a fundraiser to support the volunteer groups who worked tirelessly to locate the missing terrier.

On the GoFundMe page inspired by Paddy’s story, his family has written: “We cannot express how grateful we are to these volunteers and [we] are in awe of their kindness, knowledge and dedication”.
