People in Abbots Langley and across Hertfordshire are being urged to sign a petition against the planned closure of a respite facility for children and young adults with severe learning and physical disabilities. Last month, families across the county received the news that Nascot Lawn Children’s Unit on Langley Road in Watford is due to close at the end of October due to financial pressures. The unit provides regular overnight respite care for children and young adults with severe learning and physical disabilities and a day care service for children under five. Sheri Skelton has started a petition against the closure on the website change.org and said everyone affected by the closure is deeply saddened. She explained: “Nascot Lawn allows parent and carers to take a much needed break, confident in the knowledge that their child is receiving the highest standard of care by familiar staff. Many of the parents and carers see the staff as an extension of their families. Nascot Lawn is described as Home from Home.” To sign the petition, search SAVE NHS Nascot Lawn Children’s Respite Services on change.org
