A new community enforcement team has begun its deployment in Radlett and the wider Hertsmere area.
Four community enforcement officers have been recruited to tackle smaller-scale local problems. The main duties the new officers will perform include patrolling the borough, providing support to the public, and responding to reports of anti-social behaviour and environmental crimes, such as fly tipping.
The initiative proved controversial when it was first announced in August of last year. The new scheme took the place of Hertsmere Borough Council’s (HBC) funding for seven extra police community support officers (PCSO).
However, HBC pointed out that these seven PCSO roles had been unfilled for 18 months before they were discontinued and 14 PCSOs continue to patrol the Hertsmere area.
Councillor Christian Gray, HBC’s portfolio holder for communities, neighbourhoods, enforcement, economic development and transformation, said: “Our new officers will get to know local people, businesses and communities to understand the issues and how best to keep Hertsmere safe, together.
“They are a visible presence in Hertsmere; look out for their distinctive red uniforms on your streets.”
