OLYMPIC MISSION: Rickmansworth family aims to try every Olympic sport in memory of athletic uncle

A family from Rickmansworth has taken on the challenge of trying every Olympic sport in memory of their much-loved relative Tom Issacs, who founded the charity Cure Parkinson’s.

The Boxall family of seven began this unusual task, which they are calling The Olympic Mission (TOM), more than four years ago.

Mum Caroline, dad Chris, and children Megan, 31, Beth, 29, Emily, 25, Katie, 21, and Charlie, 15, have now made their way through almost every Olympic sport featured in the recent Games in Paris, from judo and golf to rugby and fencing, all to raise funds for Cure Parkinson’s.

Emily said on the family’s fundraising page: “Our Uncle Tom was very much a legend. He set up Cure Parkinson’s in 2005, undertook an epic sponsored walk around the British coastline, and was part of the Olympic torch relay for London 2012.

“When he left us some money to go on an adventure, we knew we had to do something spectacular, Uncle Tom-style.

“The Olympic Mission or TOM is the challenge to try out every Olympic sport as a family. We get a lot of our passion for sport from Uncle Tom, who was one of those annoying all-rounders who could do anything brilliantly. We are so excited to be celebrating the life of our uncle by doing something he would have loved.”
