Steps star Lee Latchford-Evans has spoken to Ricky News to reflect on his time at the Watersmeet pantomime in his starring role as Jack.
Internationally beloved pop group Steps have recently solidified themselves as the only UK mixed gender pop group to have a number one in four decades.
Lee joined the group when he was just 22, after responding to a call-out in a newspaper searching for performers to be in a ‘line dancing pop group’.
To his surprise, Lee was chosen to be a member of the group.
He reflects: “It was a tough decision because I had recently been given a part in a musical theatre show.”
Lee had to choose between the two and as time has shown, he indeed did make the correct choice!
Speaking on this year’s show, he said: “It has gone fantastically! It’s been manic as hell – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
He enjoyed playing Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk – noting the character’s inspirational arc.
This is Lee’s 14th pantomime and his second time performing at Watersmeet.
When asked what lessons he has learnt from his time in the panto game, he said: “Just to let go a bit. I can be borderline boring at times. Pantomime is about enjoying the moment – to allow yourself to be a bit silly and just enjoy life.
“This is a really short life we have, and people don’t realise that. Time flies by so just enjoy the moment.
“Let’s face it, the world is not a very nice place right now and the pantomime provides an escape.”
He said that his time in Steps instilled a killer work ethic within him – a trait that has been crucial for pantos.
After Jack and the Beanstalk, Lee revealed that he will be staring as Lance in the And Juliet UK tour.
