OFFENSIVE WORDS: Chorleywood War Memorial Hall vandalised by youths

Published on: 13th February 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Police were called to the War Memorial Hall in Common Road following reports of vandalism.

Officers attended the scene after a  member of the public reported youths on the roof of the hall on February 1.

It transpired that they had broken into a storage space used by the Hollybush Montessori School, stealing spray paint.

Police could find no further evidence of damage at this time.

It is likely the youths returned at the hall over that weekend, again climbing onto the roof and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to the roof tiles, and water damage to the inside of the hall.

The spray paint had been used to spray offensive words and pictures on the tunnel belonging to London Underground on the Common called the cattle creep.

Clerk to the parish council Yvonne Merritt said: “This mindless vandalism will cost the public purse thousands of pounds.  The act of climbing onto the roof was not only stupid but very dangerous for the individuals concerned.”

Police are currently investigating any CCTV footage and evidence left on site.

Anyone who can give further information should call 101.
