OCEAN WARRIORS: Watford team take on Channel swim to raise funds for charity

Published on: 2nd October 2023   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

Six young people who swim with a Watford club have raised thousands of pounds as they attempt to swim across the English Channel today (Monday, October 2).

To raise money for local charity Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care (RGPHC), Will, Sam, Megan, Prisha, Barney and Felipe, all aged between 13 and 15, have been busy training in lakes and seas around the country as part of the Ocean Warriors team.

In early September, the group from Watford Swimming Club headed to locations including Dover and Denham to practice their cold-water swimming.

At the time of writing, their JustGiving page had raised more than £10,000 in support of RGPHC, which provides vital services for people with terminal or long-term illnesses.

With the weather conditions right, the team set off at 2.15am this morning.

Coach Paul Meyler said: “The team has been absolutely amazing; they’ve put in many early mornings and are training really hard.”
