Plans to convert a former care home into accommodation for young migrants have been scrapped.
Back in January, Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) confirmed plans for a facility for migrants. The proposal would have seen Heath House Campus providing classroom spaces, meeting rooms, a training kitchen and sports facilities for people aged 16 to 18, as well as care leavers.
A meeting with councillors in attendance recently took place. County councillor Caroline Clapper says that Heath House was one of several sites across Hertfordshire that HCC had considered. HCC ran local engagements and risk assessments before deciding that Heath House was not the most appropriate location.
She said: “We have a responsibility to accommodate migrant children but it has been decided Heath House is not the right place. It is testament to HCC that they listened to the community.”
