‘NUISANCE PARKING’: Hillingdon council restricts motorcycles from High Street parking bays

Published on: 6th January 2026   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Recently, Hillingdon Council agreed to prevent motorbikes from using pay-and-display bays in Ruislip High Street to alleviate parking pressures and poor driving by fast-food delivery drivers.

The decision came after a formal consultation earlier this year in which 56 per cent of respondents supported the idea.

Before this, ward councillors had also received several complaints from local businesses and shoppers who complained about ‘haphazard’ driving practices, anti-social behaviour and the lack of parking spaces.

One respondent to the consultation had reportedly counted 22 delivery bikes parked across four pay-and-display bays.

Hillingdon councillor Eddie Lavery said: “We want our high streets to flourish and be places that shoppers can visit easily and safely.

“These new measures have been introduced with the intention of tackling ongoing issues reported to the council relating to the misuse of parking spaces and dangerous driving practices by fast-food delivery drivers.

“These measures will simply allow us to effectively tackle the nuisance parking and associated issues.”

Ruislip High Street is home to a variety of popular restaurants and fast-food outlets, which has increased the number of drivers on the roads, particularly motorbikes.

The amended traffic order will be enforced by the council’s parking officers and reviewed after six months.
