NOT CONFIRMED: Confusion surrounds new superstore in Watford

Published on: 15th February 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Featured

Confusion has arisen among some residents after an alleged brochure stated that a second Aldi would open last summer at the former Iceland and Laser Planet units in the town centre, but this has yet to happen.

Several months after ‘coming soon’ signs appeared, the store’s opening date has still not been confirmed, and some are not sure whether plans are still going ahead.

However, Aldi announced in a press release in September 2025 that Watford would be one of the many towns to benefit from its £1.6 billion expansion plan.

The expansion plan is expected to be carried out across 2026 and 2027 with the aim of opening 80 stores across the country to “meet the UK’s growing demand for affordable groceries”.

Despite not being confirmed by the German superstore itself, residents may have to wait a little longer for their new store. Aldi had not directly addressed queries regarding the upcoming Watford store at the time WATFORDnews went to print.
