Nominations are now being taken for Hertfordshire County Council’s 2014 School Travel Awards, which celebrate good practice and promote safe travel. Awards will be given in five categories – school travel award which encourages safe, active and green travel; road safety; school crossing patrol of the year; walking bus champion; walking and cycling best practice; and school council innovation award. Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “These awards are an opportunity to thank people around the county who have played a role in promoting road safety and for getting involved in their community. They are also a great way to encourage schools to promote sustainable transport to their students, as well as share best practice. “If you know of a worthy candidate please put them forward for an award before the closing date on Friday February 7. There is no limit to the number of people you can put forward.” Paper forms have been sent out to schools but nominations can also be made online at www.hertsdirect.org/schooltravel. The winners will be announced at an award ceremony at Hertford Theatre on March 25. For more information on the awards contact ssj.schools@hertfordshire.gov.uk
