A Kings Langley resident is urging people to show their support to the NHS in different ways and not by lighting sky lanterns, as they are deemed dangerous.
Annette Jones believes many companies have been promoting sky lanterns lately.
She said: “Sky lanterns are dangerous and even more so at this time when the emergency services are more over-stretched than ever and the ground is so dry after the hot weather.”
Annette decided to take the matter in her own hands and contacted the leader of Dacorum Borough Council, councillor Andrew Williams to express her concerns.
The email she received back read: “I am sure you will be pleased to know that we recently adopted a condition for all event on all land in the borough owned by DBC which bans the release of Balloons and sky lanterns.”
Sky lanterns pose a further risk as a fire hazard with the potential to spark fires in crops, heath, moorland, forestry and buildings.
