Residents of Melbourne Road in Bushey are having major problems with the high number of parked cars on the pavement, which they say are blocking access and forcing them to use the main road to pass by.
One resident who is badly affected is elderly Valerie Green (pictured) who has lived in Melbourne Road for six years and is registered disabled.
Valerie told BusheyNews: “I am being forced to wheel myself into the road to pass by, which has become a real problem for me. Every day the cars are there right up on the pavement, blocking access and pushing me into the road. The cars also drive past very fast, way over the speed limit which makes the situation very dangerous.”
One resident added: “This happens every day. Occasionally the parked cars get a ticket, but since lockdown ended the situation has got really bad.”
Another said: “People with mobility scooters have enough problems trying to navigate uneven, badly repaired pavements without selfish drivers parking half on the road and half on the pavement. Sympathise with the lack of parking space but that is up to councils who insist on allowing construction of more and more flats.”
A spokesperson from Hertsmere Borough Council said:” There are no parking restrictions in place here so we cannot enforce against the vehicles parked obstructing the pathway. However, the police can enforce wilful obstruction.”
